In Seminole County, about 7% of the population is immunocompromised.
Mindy Machock and her husband Dan White were some of the first to book appointments to get the booster shot. White is a double-lung transplant recipient.
“When I go out and do things, we are both immunized. And that way, I come home, I don’t have as much worry that he is going to get sick,” Machock said. “Because with a double-lung transplant, that could probably be fatal.”
White said by getting the shot, it provides a little more peace of mind as the delta variant surges.
“It’s important to me because Mindy is my caregiver, and if she gets sick, what do I do?” White said. “So they are not just impacting an individual, they are taking out a whole family.”
Seminole County began preparing to distribute the booster shots of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine months ago.
