SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s been nine days since a shooting at Seminole High School in Sanford sent one student to the hospital.
During that time, school officials have been busy behind the scenes addressing the shooting and fights that have been ongoing in the district this past year.
In an email, Superintendent Serita Beamon told parents acts of violence will not be tolerated and there will be firm and swift action.
Since the shooting, school board members also met behind closed doors to address safety and security. The district is hiring a third-party entity to evaluate the campuses and formulate the next steps.
There will also be a task force composed of members of the community, law enforcement and district officials to look at the problems specifically related to Seminole High School.
Eliser Maldonado has a daughter that goes to Seminole High and said she would like to see more security in place.
On Saturday, the annual District Parent Academy and a mental health counselor will be on-site from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
