Sanford firefighter pleads guilty to charge related to U.S. Capitol riot

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Sanford firefighter pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from his participation in the U.S. Capitol riot, according to a plea deal signed last week.

Andrew Williams, who has been a firefighter/paramedic with the Sanford Fire Department since 2016, pleaded guilty to a charge of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.

A photo shared from inside the Capitol on Jan. 6 appeared to show Williams inside the building.

Williams was placed on unpaid leave from the fire department pending the results of an internal investigation into his participation.

On Tuesday, the Sanford Fire Department said Williams will remain on administrative leave without pay pending a final sentencing hearing, and an administrative investigation that will become active following the sentencing hearing.
