WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — Winter Springs police arrested a woman after witnesses said she attempted to race other cars in traffic, striking one car before crashing her minivan into a light pole outside Keeth Elementary School with a 4-year-old child in the back seat.

Officers said Erin Kelley, 33, was swaying on her feet and smelled of alcohol when they arrived on scene Sunday. They said neither Kelley nor the child was injured in the crash, but that the minivan Kelley was driving had extensive front-end damage.

Officers said they found two empty, still-cold cans of hard seltzer in the back seat of the van.

According to an arrest report, witnesses said they saw Kelley speeding on Tuskawilla Road attempting to race other cars before crashing into a sedan and then fleeing the scene before crashing into a stop sign and light pole outside of the elementary school.

An officer said when they took Kelley to South Seminole Hospital to be medically cleared, she “became uncooperative and began to shove and kick me against my will.”

The officer wrote that, “While inside, Erin required the assistance of hospital security to restrain her and prevent her from causing injury to staff.”

Kelley is charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, child neglect, resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
