OVIEDO, Fla. — The city of Oviedo has always been considered a bedroom community, but over the last decade development in Oviedo has been really on the rise.
Thomas Moon has lived in Oviedo for 71 years and said, “We haven’t had controlled growth here it’s just been pop pop pop. As fast as they can pop them out of the ground.”

Now the owners of the Duda Sod Farm are looking to develop 42 acres of their property. The development will include 70 townhomes, some shops and office space as well as the Duda headquarters.
The longstanding sod farm, which can be seen off Mitchell Hammock Road, will not be touched; the planned development is further down the road where the water tower is.

Local realtor and member of the city’s Land and Planning Committee Emma Reichert said this is needed.
“If you live in Oviedo or you tried to buy a home here in Oviedo, you can’t, it’s very difficult,” Reichert said.

Oviedo resident Tom Miller said, “I think it’s great for the community. It brings in more money, more business for them and the community. I think it’s a good idea.”
Channel 9 reached out to Duda for a comment and they have not responded.
