Man dies after being ejected from SUV into lake during hit-and-run crash, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a hit-and-run driver who caused a deadly chain-reaction crash early Sunday.

Troopers said the crash happened around 1:18 a.m. on southbound State Road 417 in Seminole County.

The crash happened on the highway bridge over Lake Jesup and resulted in a 60-year-old Orlando man being ejected from an SUV into the water below, according to a report.

Troopers said someone driving a tractor-trailer struck an SUV and caused it to lose control and crash into a concrete wall.

The SUV spun around and crashed into the wall a second time, causing one of the passengers inside to be thrown out the rear window and into Lake Jesup.

Another SUV then crashed into the first SUV spun into the concrete wall on the side of the bridge.

Troopers said all three vehicles were going south on SR-417 at the time of the chain-reaction crash and the tractor-trailer driver kept going after crashing into the first SUV.

The body of the man who was ejected into Lake Jesup during the crash was later recovered.

Troopers said four people were taken to a hospital for treatment, two with serious injuries.

Anyone with information about the tractor-trailer driver is asked to 911 or the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213.
