LONGWOOD, Fla. — A worker died Monday afternoon after an accident at a road work site in Longwood, police said.

Longwood police and Seminole County firefighters were sent to Warren Avenue and Oak Street around 1:43 p.m. for reports of a worker pinned in a dirt trench at a construction site.

Police said crews were working on a sewer project in the area and had dug a trench in the middle of the road.

Somehow, dirt caved into the trench during the project, trapping two workers, police said.

Officials said one worker was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition and the other was taken to Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital with fatal injuries.

Police said they are actively investigating this incident, and the names of the victims have not been released.
