SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Seminole County School Board approved a plan to put an officer or deputy at every school starting this fall.
Leaders said that means an additional 21 officers will be on hand at the district’s 59 schools to keep students safe.
A student resource officer will be on hand from the first bell through the end of the school day, and for some after school activities.
In the past, high schools and middle schools already had an assigned officer, but, at the elementary level, deputies and police covered two schools each school day.
The new plan will cost $1 million more than last year.
But many parents said that it’s money well spent, with lockdowns happening more frequently.
The cost will be split between law enforcement agencies, and, deputies say, hopefully some grants that they are in the process of applying for.
