SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Starting Wednesday, thousands of Seminole County Public School students will get on buses and travel to summer camp for free.

A total of 6,000 elementary and secondary schools signed up for the program, which is federally funded by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund grants. The grants are meant to address learning losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the focus will be on improving literacy, mathematics, and advanced placement classes. But the camp will also provide opportunities for students to explore topics of interest to them.
Other classes available will touch on robotics, musical theater, and sculpture.

“Our teachers, administrators, and leadership team are dedicated and relentless in efforts to bridge learning gaps created by the pandemic, as well as provide opportunities for student acceleration,” said Seminole County Superintendent Serita D. Beamon.
“We are grateful for the ESSER funds and the hard work of the educators, social workers, school administrators, bus drivers, dining services personnel, and custodians who will open campuses over the summer,” Beamon added.
