SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County deputy saved a large snake this week.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Leguizamo helped wrangle an escaped six-foot boa constrictor on Old Lake Mary Road Wednesday.

Leguizamo then contacted local exotic animal rescue officials to handle the reptile.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Service Conservation Commission, boa constrictors are typically around 8 feet long but can reach up to 13 feet.

FWC said boas could escape after hurricanes damage reptile dealers’ facilities, like after Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
