Firefighter honored for saving Seminole County deputy’s life in fiery crash

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orlando firefighter and a Seminole County deputy said they’ll have a bond for the rest of their lives thanks to one’s heroic actions.

Attorney General Ashley Moody presented firefighter Lt. Ben Wootson with a Back the Blue Award for jumping into action back in March when Deputy Matt Luxon’s patrol car caught fire after he crashed into a bridge.

“I’m still able to pray for my boys each night as I tuck them into bed,” Luxon said. “When my boys get a little older, I’m going to have the tremendous opportunity of showing them that man and what that kind of man looks like.”

The Back the Blue campaign recognizes people taking big steps to create positive relationships between law enforcement and local community. More than 50 Back the Blue awards have been given out.
