BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Hurricanes Ian and Nicole wrecked boats that are still littering Central Florida waterways, but there’s now an effort underway in Brevard County to remove as many as possible.

Not only are the derelict boats eyesores, but the fuel they carry doesn’t always stay on the boat. And there are other vessels you can’t see.
During a standard derelict vessel removal, the county frequently seeks reimbursement from boat owners. That’s not the case this time around.
The county said this is one of the biggest derelict vessel removal initiatives it’s ever undertaken.
