Second Harvest Food Bank partners with Sysco to feed hundreds of Brevard County families

PALM BAY, Fla. — From March to April, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida says they’ve seen a 12 percent increase in searches for food assistance using their online tool.

According to Second Harvest, one in seven adults, or one in five children will go hungry on any given day.

Inflation, rising gas prices, and rent costs have only added to the problem, especially as kids prepare to get out of school for the summer.

To help, food distributor Sysco partnered with Second Harvest Tuesday for a food distribution event in Palm Bay.

Along with nonprofit organization Hands for Healing, Second Harvest and Sysco provided enough prepared meals to to feed as many as 500 households.

The distribution event began at 11 a.m. and continued until all the meals were gone.

Anyone in need of food assistance who wasn’t able to attend can use Second Harvest’s online search tool to find other opportunities for help.

It allows a person to enter any address and see a list of Second Harvest feeding partners closest to that location with information on the days and times they operate.
