WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — The search is still on for missing Winter Garden pilot Michael Sills.
Police found the Sills' truck at an Apopka airport. The man and his plane were last seen on Sept. 11.
A friend of Sills told WFTV's Melanie Holt that he spoke to Sills on Tuesday morning.
That same afternoon, Sills' girlfriend said she received a series of alarming texts from Sills.
When police went to the airport and found Sills' plane missing they notified the Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI.
According to Winter Garden police, Sills sent a text to his girlfriend in which he threatened to crash his Piper aircraft into her house.
Another text indicated that it was too late to call police.
Police said Sills and his girlfriend had recently broken up.
"It's kind of weird that he would do something like that. He didn't seem like the type," said neighbor Scott Beckham.
Beckham told WFTV that when he spoke to Sills on Tuesday, the man didn't appear suicidal.
Police said the last activity on Sills' cellphone placed him near a cell tower in Zellwood, just north of the Orlando-Apopka airport.
Police said they found evidence of what could have been a suicide attempt.
If Sills is in his plane now, finding him may be very difficult.
"It's very easy to get in an airplane and disappear," said flight instructor Nick Falzon.
Falzon said an emergency locator transmitter could reveal Sills' location if he has crashed.
If Sills is safe, his friend has a message.
"People still care about him and everything will be alright," said Beckham.
