3 arrested in Sanford drive-by shooting held without bond

SANFORD, Fla. — Sanford police have arrested three people they believe shot at a home in the Washington Oaks neighborhood and then drove off on Wednesday.

Police said the suspects fired multiple shots into a home near Scott Drive.

Investigators said they found evidence in the car that ties the suspects to the crime, including ammunition and five guns.

Witnesses told Channel 9 the gunman was firing through the sunroof of the vehicle as it drove by.

Witness Lula King said the shooting was so loud she thought it happened inside her home.

"(It) sounded like an AK-47 to me," she said. "It was, 'Dat, dat, dat, dat, dat.' Just one bullet behind the other, just spraying."

The barrage of gunfire struck at least one car and two homes.

Sanford police said they found 23 bullet casings on the ground outside King's home.

Authorities from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office quickly put a helicopter in the air and were able to start following a car believed to have been involved in the gunfire.

The occupants crashed the vehicle in the area of Summerlin Avenue and Scott Drive, then fled on foot before being apprehended. They were identified as Leonard Reliford, Devin Johnson and Gerrard Campbell.

Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.

King told Channel 9 she believes the men were targeting someone hanging out in front of her home. She believes it was part of a feud stemming from an old armed robbery.

"Young people need to stop all this foolishness," she said. "The devil got you."

The three suspects are being held in the Seminole County Jail without bond.

Police are now working to find out if the suspects were also involved in a nearby hit-and-run.
