LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The first race has officially kicked off this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.
Runners braved the Florida cold snap and made their way through the course at EPCOT early Thursday morning.
Channel 9 was also at the starting line for the 5K race, which got underway at 5 a.m.

Meteorologist David Heckard said the thermometer at the time read 40 degrees, but “feels-like” temperatures in Lake Buena Vista were in the mid-30s.
Thousands of runners hit the course, many decked out in Disney-themed costumes.
There are more events in the days ahead, including Friday’s 10K race, Saturday’s half-marathon, and Sunday’s full marathon, all of which are sold out.

The first Walt Disney World Marathon was run in 1994.
