Residents in a 55-and-up community in Port Orange urging for help after Hurricane Ian

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Many of the homes in “The Colony In The Wood” faced major damage after Hurricane Ian.

The neighborhood is located in a flood zone off Clyde Morris Boulevard in Port Orange.

This residential area has 380 manufactured homes for those who are 55 and older.

Martin Deblois is a resident who recounts the horrors of seeing the ongoing floodwaters.

“It was just devastating,” he said. “The whole park, but we got it the worse over here. We got 40 inches of water over here in the road. For 5 days it just did not go nowhere,”

Retirees in the community said they are urging that The Colony In The Woods help those impacted by the flooding.

Deblois also said that the housing complex should offer people market value for their homes if they are condemned.

“I just like to see these people get compensated.” Deblois said. “I feel bad for them, you don’t really need this in your 60s, 70s, and 80s. You don’t really need this.
