TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A man was seriously injured Thursday morning in a shooting at an apartment complex, the Titusville Police Department said.

Police said they were called at about 11:30 a.m. to the Emerald Place apartments near Harrison Street and Deleon Avenue after gunfire was reported.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and the gunman remains at large, investigators said.

Resident Mateo Pantin was working on his pickup truck when he heard gunfire, so he ran into his apartment.

"I got my fiancée and her kids out here," he said. "You just stay to yourself. That's just how it is."

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident, but they haven't released a motive or said if the victim was targeted.

"Any time guns are fired around a lot of people, it can be dangerous," Titusville police Chief John Lau said. "Thankfully, today, there was just one victim. And it could have been more, but there was only one."

The shooting remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
