ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Reedy Creek Improvement District administrator held a call with the fire department Monday afternoon.

Firefighters said during the meeting, which lasted less than 10 minutes, they were not allowed to ask questions. Now, they will have to go outside the district if they can’t get answers about what this means for their careers.
Fire union president, Jon Shirley, said they were told by the district administrator that they should keep doing their job and not speak for the district.

He said 84 out of 200 union members go on the call, and many of them decided they would boycott the meeting.
The union has been at odds with the district for years. The recent issues have had to do with staffing. The union said their staffing levels have remained almost he same for decades even though the parks have grown.

Now, the union said the staffing could get worse with the uncertainty.
Firefighters were told that the fire chief would be going around to stations to answer questions, but they don’t know when that will happen.
