Publix discontinues one-way aisle arrows at stores where local ordinances don’t require them

ORLANDO, Fla. — Say so long to the now-familiar directional arrows in Publix aisles telling you which way to go.

The company said they have discontinued the one-way aisles in stores where they are not required by local ordinance.

“We implemented one-way aisles at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic to help our customers understand and practice social distancing and over time, it has become widely understood and adopted into our routines,” Director of Communications Maria Brous said in an email.

Shoppers first noticed the arrows disappearing in Orlando stores this weekend.

Brous said the stores are continuing other measures to keep workers and shoppers safe during the pandemic.

“We will continue to provide friendly social distancing reminders in our stores, through signage, floor markers at checkout and other queuing areas, as well as through our public address announcements,” she said.
