Cruise travel is riding a bigger wave than ever through Port Canaveral, according to the latest passenger counts.
The port welcomed more than 2.8 million multi-day passengers for the five-month period of October to February — a 129.5% increase from 1.22 million passengers for the same timeframe last year. Most notable, this year’s passenger jump was accomplished with only a 19% increase in ship calls — or docking and port activity — from 329 ship calls for the same time last year to 392 this year.
In addition, this year’s trend is promising for the anticipated yearly total of passengers, said Capt. John Murray, president and CEO of Port Canaveral.
