Popular Orlando radio personality Scott McKenzie dead at 59

Longtime Orlando radio personality Scott McKenzie died Tuesday morning after a long illness.

Last week, radio station MIX 105.1 announced that McKenzie had entered hospice care. He had battled non-Hodgkin lymphoma for seven years.

The station said McKenzie, 59, had been with them for over 24 years.

ORLANDO, Fla. — “Scott and I knew how lucky we were to be able to come to work every day and do what we love. His talent and creativity were limitless, and he made me laugh -- a lot! The world is dimmer without Scott's bright light shining,” former radio co-host Erica Lee said in a press release Tuesday.

Prior to that he held similar roles at WTHZ-FM in Tallahassee, Florida, WXGT-FM in Columbus, Ohio, and WZOU-FM in Boston, according to the station.

McKenzie grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Ohio University.

He is survived by his wife, Fran and daughter, Lauren.
