Polk County deputies fatally shoot man who shot at them after stabbing his mother

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County deputies shot and killed a man after they said he fired a handgun at deputies after stabbing his mother Wednesday morning.

Deputies said the 36-year-old man stabbed his mother, who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

While deputies were searching for the suspect near Winter Haven, they said the man came out and fired shots at the investigators.

Deputies said they returned fire, and the man was shot and killed.

No deputies were injured.
