‘It could have been me or my family’: Neighbor reacts to Polk County shooting that killed 4

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A neighbor’s doorbell camera caught some of the carnage after four people were gunned down early Sunday.

Liberty Ulrich said that woke him up around 4 a.m. Sunday morning.

“I came outside and I saw a state trooper parked at the end of my driveway,” Ulrich said. “He told me to go back inside. He had a long gun actually pointed this way.”

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was in the middle of a shootout right next door.

“I didn’t know what to think at the time,” Ulrich said. “You hear about this stuff on TV; you don’t live it. It was scary.”

Deputies said the suspect, Bryan Riley, fatally shot four people including two women, an infant and a man.

A fifth person, an 11-year-old girl, survived.

Deputies said Riley had no connection to the victims.

Ulrich said he would see the neighbors as he pulled into my driveway, but he never spoke to them.

“Literally, my driveway is the next driveway,” he said. “It could have been me or my family.”

Sheriff Grady Judd said Riley recently worked security for a church in Orlando.

Riley is a former Marine and did at least two tours overseas.
