3 officers taken to hospital after rescuing residents from apartment fire in Lakeland

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Six people, including three officers with the Lakeland Police Department, were taken to a hospital after an apartment fire Thursday morning.

First responders were called to the Lakewood Terrace Apartments at around 7:30 a.m. after reports of a fire.

Three Lakeland police officers arrived at the complex and helped to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived.

A second-floor apartment was damaged by fire and three people inside were given CPR before they were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The three officers were also taken to a hospital, but no details were released on their condition.

No firefighters were injured at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it does appear to be unintentional, firefighters said.

The American Red Cross was also contacted to help residents displaced by the fire.
