VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 60-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly outside her Daytona Beach hotel room when she fought back against a man who tried to steal her purse, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, had just withdrawn $1,600 from an ATM when the suspect, Curtis Rodgers, 47, grabbed her purse and tried to run, the Daytona Beach Police Department said.
When the woman fought back, Rodgers allegedly threw her to the ground and stabbed her at least eight times, police said.
She appeared to be stabbed in the hands.
Surveillance video from the hotel captured the attack, and Rodgers was identified as a suspect, investigators said.
A friend of the victim, who asked to only be identified as Fatima, said the victim was followed home from the Sunoco gas station on North Atlantic Avenue to buy lottery tickets and use the ATM.
Rodgers is seen in the surveillance video at the gas station before the attack.
He was arrested and charged with robbery and aggravated battery.
Rodgers is being held without bond at the Volusia County Jail.
