Police: Second officer injured in downtown Orlando shooting released from hospital

ORLANDO, Fla. — Second officer injured in downtown Orlando shooting was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon, police said.

“We are grateful to report that the second officer was able to leave the hospital today and will be recovering at home,” the Orlando Police Department said in a statement.

The officers’ names have not been released.

Daton Viel, 28, is accused of shooting the two officers after a traffic stop on Aug. 4, spurring a manhunt across portions of Orlando.

Viel was later killed by police after he shot at the SWAT team at the Holiday Inn near Universal Orlando Resort.

Orlando police said they are grateful for the support from the community and the medical staff at Orlando Health.
