Police: Motorist fatally struck by freight train in Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A motorist was fatally struck by a train early Saturday, the Ormond Beach Police Department said.

The motorist was hit at about 4:45 a.m. while crossing the railroad tracks at Lincoln Avenue, Ormond Beach police Officer Keith Walker said.

The motorist, who wasn't immediately publicly identified, died at the scene.

West Granada Boulevard and Lincoln and Wilmette avenues were closed for about three hours but have since reopened, Walker said.

Ormond Beach police and Florida East Coast Railway police continue to investigate the crash.

No other details were given.
