MAITLAND, Fla. — A farmers' market in Maitland became a crime scene Sunday morning after a man's body was found in Lake Lily, police said.

Vendors at the farmers' market told Channel 9's Cuthbert Langley they thought the smell was a dead animal, but later noticed a body in the water around 9:15 a.m.

Police identified the man as Theodore Capretta, 71, of Maitland. His cause of death has not been released.

"We just smelled something really bad. We didn't know what it was, maybe an animal or something," said Quintara Patillo, a vendor at the farmers' market.

Maitland police and the forensics team with the Winter Park Police Department are at the scene. Police confirmed the body is a white man and that he does not match any missing persons reports in the area.

The area was roped off with crime scene tape and vendors couldn't go near their stands during the investigation.

The cause of death is under investigation.

No other details have been released.
