LEESBURG, Fla. — Leesburg High School's head baseball coach was released from jail after paying a $5,000 bail following an arrest on drug charges, Lake County Jail records said.
Turner McLain, 50, was arrested late Friday in the parking lot of Shamrock Lounge and Package on North Boulevard after an officer discovered marijuana, methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his pickup truck, the Leesburg Police Department said.
Earlier that night, McLain's team beat Umatilla High School 6-3, according to MaxPreps.
"That's not mine. It belongs to a worker of mine," he said, according to a police report. "He smokes a lot."
McLain later told the officer that an eyeglass case that contained methamphetamine and a pipe in his hand had been taken from a player, police said.
Investigators said they discovered a Crown Royal bag containing another pipe and marijuana.
The school's principal ordered McLain to not have contact with the team, pending the outcome of the case, a Lake County Schools spokeswoman said.
