DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 49-year-old Daytona Beach man who died after his caregiver found him injured is believed to have been murdered, the Daytona Beach Police Department said Friday.

Investigators said Pernell Robinson, who had schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, hadn't been seen in three days when Diane Reid found him covered in dried blood and wearing disheveled clothes on the porch of their Taylor Avenue home.

Police said Reid brought Robinson into the home so he could get some rest before she left to go for a walk and to get something to eat.

When she came back, she found him on the bathroom floor and noticed he wasn’t breathing. Reid called 911 and performed CPR.

Robinson was dead when paramedics arrived, police said.

Reid told detectives that it wasn't unusual for Robinson to vanish for several days and to come home injured, investigators said.

She said she didn't typically report his disappearances because he feared police.

The medical examiner on Tuesday ruled that Robinson died from blunt-force trauma.

Police haven't said what part of his body was injured.

The death remains under investigation.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about the circumstances surrounding his death.
