Dennis Impallomeni was one of several residents who tried to help rescue the family.
“I just totally felt helpless at that point in time. I jumped down into the ditch and another guy jumped down into the ditch with me,” he said
Impallomeni said he and the other man made it to the car but couldn’t get the car doors open.
When emergency crews arrived they were able to flip the car over and get the driver and both children out of the car.
