ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando police chief has revealed new evidence to Channel 9 that he said links an apartment security guard to the murder of a young renter.
Chief John Mina said the evidence includes new information about DNA tests and he revealed his thoughts on the strength of the case against Stephen Duxbury.
Duxbury is accused of raping and killing Sasha Samsudean in her unit at the Uptown apartments in downtown Orlando.
“The apartment complex had good security footage and we were able to get video, and see him walking out with those garbage bags,” said Mina. “Same type of garbage bags that came from her apartment, so very compelling evidence.”

Mina said it wasn’t part of Duxbury’s normal duties to be in that part of the building.
Those bags are believed to have been filled with evidence from the scene that Duxbury was allegedly trying to destroy.
Police have not said what became of those trash bags, but said they have not been able to find certain pieces of Samsudean’s clothing.
Crime scene technicians were very thorough, Mina said.
He said Monday the case is stronger now because of DNA evidence.
“We work very closely with the (medical examiner’s) office and part of that, we know, that many times, there is DNA from the suspect left on the victim’s body, and that is what happened in this case. So his DNA came back on her body and that’s been confirmed through FDLE,” Mina said.
Police said they also found a fingerprint and shoe print matching Duxbury’s.
