MAITLAND, Fla. — Maitland police say a man was killed when his car caught fire after a crash early Saturday morning.
It happened just before 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 near Maitland Boulevard.
Police say the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of the car and hit a sign on side of the road.
First responders from the Maitland Fire Department were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
Because of the extent of the damage, police have not been able to identify the driver.
Eastbound I-4 near Maitland Boulevard will be reduced to one lane indefinitely while police continue to investigate the crash.
