Pedestrian dies after crash with crime scene unit vehicle, troopers say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 66-year-old woman has died after being struck by a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit vehicle Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 12:06 a.m. in Cocoa.

According to a news release, the crime scene unit van was traveling northbound on US-1 (North Cocoa Boulevard), north of McLeod Drive.

Investigators said the pedestrian was walking in a westerly direction across the northbound lanes of North Cocoa Boulevard and was not in a marked crosswalk.

As a result, the front of the van hit the woman, and she died at the scene.

The driver, a 36-year-old Titusville woman, didn’t have any injuries and remained on the scene, officials said.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
