‘A path forward to more sustainability’: Disney union celebrates after voting down contract offer

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The votes are in, and tens of thousands of Walt Disney World cast members have said no to Disney’s latest offer.

On Friday, the employees said the proposed $1 hourly raise isn’t enough.

The Service Trades Council Union members are celebrating what they’re calling the continued fight for a larger cost of living increase, and that what they’re making just isn’t enough to put food on the tables for their families.

“It means a lot,” Disney employee Sean Hopper said. “For me right now, it’s a path forward to more sustainability.”

Disney workers cast a vote over the past two days, and 96% of the voters said no to the company’s increase.

Disney spokesperson Andrea Finger told Channel 9 in an email, “Our strong offer provides more than 30,000 Cast Members a nearly 10% on average raise immediately, as well as retroactive increased pay in their paychecks, and we are disappointed that those increases are now delayed.”
