Police: Lockdown lifted a Palm Bay High, person of interest in custody

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The lockdown at Palm Bay High School was lifted Tuesday afternoon.

Melbourne police said at this time there was “no specific threat” involving the school, but that a person of interest was taken into custody.

Brevard Public Schools said there was a report about a man with a weapon either near or on campus. The district said police responded and detained the man off campus.

The district said the school was placed on “shelter in place.”

The district said they are unsure if the incident was related to the school or not.

Police said they were staging behind the 7-Eleven near the intersection of Eber Boulevard and Babcock Street for any parents or guardians of students that have questions.

Police are asking people to avoid the area if possible.
