State Road 417 reopens after dump truck overturns, spilling construction debris

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State Road 417 is back open after a dump truck overturned on Saturday morning, spilling garbage across the northbound lanes of the highway.

According to a news release, a dump truck and a Hyundai Elantra were both traveling north on SR-417 around 10:34 a.m. near the John Young Toll Plaza, when the Elantra made an improper lane change.

The rear of the Elantra hit the front of the dump truck causing the dump truck to overturn and hit a concrete barrier, guardrail and a pole.

A load of construction debris was scattered across the highway for a few hours before crews cleared the roadway.

The 38-year-old Maryland driver of the Elantra and three children who remained at the scene, ages 9, 15 and 16, received minor injuries.

The dump truck driver, a 54-year-old Orlando man, was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The E-pass travel lanes were blocked and traffic was diverted through the toll booth lanes for a few hours while emergency crews dealt with the aftermath of the crash.
