Othal Wallace trial: Testimony details how accused cop killer made it to Georgia

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of killing a Daytona Beach police officer was back in court Wednesday.

The trial for Othal Wallace continued for a third day of emotional testimony from witnesses, experts and family.

Wallace is accused of shooting and killing Daytona Beach police officer Jason Raynor in 2021.

Days later, Wallace was found in a treehouse in Georgia and arrested.

In court Wednesday, doctors said Raynor had a gunshot to his brain causing a hemorrhage and fracturing his skull.

Wallace’s father told jurors on Tuesday that his son called him on the way out of Daytona Beach and asked to borrow a car.

“He just said he had some stuff going on and he needed to get away. Cops shot, I need to get away,” Othal Wallace’s father said.

On Wednesday, Wallace’s brother’s girlfriend, who lives in Gainesville, said she drove Wallace over state lines to Gainesville, but she didn’t know where she was going or why.

Prosecutors said they hope to be wrapped with their witnesses by Wednesday afternoon or early Thursday. At that point, Wallace’s attorneys will have a chance to make their case and Wallace can take the stand if he choses.
