Pedestrian hit and killed on Florida Turnpike, troopers say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is underway in Osceola County after a pedestrian was hit and killed on the Florida Turnpike early Saturday morning.

The deadly crash happened at 1:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 217, which is between the U.S. 441/State Road 60 exit and the Canoe Creek Service Plaza.

Troopers said a car that was traveling southbound had stopped on the shoulder. For an unknown reason, the passenger got out of the car and ran across the southbound lane and into the northbound lanes.

The passenger began walking in the northbound lanes and was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound, according to troopers.

The 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers have not released any other information surrounding this incident.
