10-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle while crossing busy road, troopers say

OSCEOLA COUNTY Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened in Osceola County on Wednesday night.

According to troopers, the crash occurred on U.S. 192 and Avalon Road at 9:15 p.m.

Troopers said the crash involved a vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to troopers, witnesses said several children were attempting to cross U.S. 192 and were not at the intersection or at the crosswalk. The car, traveling eastbound, struck one of the children.

The victim, a 10-year-old girl, later died at the hospital, troopers said.

Troopers said, at this time, it is unclear where the child lives.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 192 were closed due to the investigation.

The driver of the car remained at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
