Osceola County installed state-of-the-art speed cameras at 32 high-risk locations near Osceola County’s schools. After a 30-day warning period, the program will begin issuing citations for posted speed limit violations.

The County will mail a $100 fine to any vehicle found to be traveling 10 miles per hour over the speed limit during school hours. Warnings will begin on January 7, 2025, while citations will begin on February 6, 2025.

At the direction of the Board of County Commissioners, Osceola County contracted with Verra Mobility, a leader in speed safety technology, to administer this safety program. The cameras will capture images of vehicle license plates and send them through secure video.

Law enforcement will verify the infraction before a fine is issued. Data collected from Verra Mobility’s programs showed that nearly 70% of people who received a road safety program citation did not receive a second.

“Implementing speed cameras in school zones has been proven to reduce crashes and pedestrian-related injuries,” said County Commission Chair Viviana Janer. “We all have a role in keeping our children safe, especially as they go to and from school. Working together as a community, we can help make our roads safer.”
