Father-in-law of slain St. Cloud woman charged with second-degree murder

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — The father-in-law of a slain Osceola County mother is now facing second-degree murder charges.

Prosecutors have charged Angel Rivera with second-degree murder in the death of Nicole Montalvo, which likely means they have new evidence about his involvement.

In October, Osceola County deputies found Nicole Montalvo’s body buried on the property of her estranged husband Christopher Otero-Rievera’s father, Angel Rivera.

Both men were arrested but neither were formally charged, setting off a political firestorm, resulting in Gov. Ron DeSantis stepping in to appoint a prosecutor from another circuit to consider charges.

In an indictment filed last month, Otero-Rivera was charged with second-degree murder, and Rivera was indicted on accessory after the fact to murder and tampering with evidence.
