Drivers adjust to new ‘diverging diamond’ interchange at I-4 and ChampionsGate

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Driver are adjusting to the new “diverging diamond” interchange at Interstate 4 and ChampionsGate in Osceola County.

Channel 9 went through the interchange and saw a few hesitant drivers, especially at the cross over.

Most coasted right through. Something to be cautious of are the signs and making sure you stay in your lane.

The diverging diamond interchange is located at I-4 and County Road 532.

The Florida Department of Transportation said as many as 68,000 people drive through that interchange every day.

The new interchange shifts traffic to the left side of the road as drivers cross over I-4, and then back to the right-hand side.

It’s expected to improve traffic congestion and decrease crashes.

The interchange opened at 7 a.m. Sunday. FDOT said it wanted drivers to get used to it Sunday before heading to work Monday.
