OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A longtime United States Postal Service worker is accused of stealing mail from his route for years.
Investigators said they found several hundred pieces of mail, dating back two years, in Victor Sanchez's garage after receiving a tip earlier this month he was destroying stolen mail.
Sanchez, 48, was a rural letter carrier working out of a facility in Osceola County and had been delivering mail since 2001.
"It's pretty shocking. You feel like you trust them. I converse with every mailman who comes here, so it's kind of concerning," resident Lance Carlson said.
Channel 9 learned investigators don't know of any financial gain Sanchez would get out of stealing mail.
Investigators said they're in the process of notifying victims.
The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General said this kind of theft is very rare and the office takes it very seriously.
Officials ask anyone who believes their mail was stolen to contact the Office of Inspector General and file a complaint.
