Osceola County deputy's arrest could affect his recent cases

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Eyewitness News asked if the arrest of an Osceola County deputy could jeopardize some of the recent criminal cases that he's worked on.

According to investigators, Deputy Jason Sigman admitted to buying 20 Percocet pills for $40 so he could consume them.

The Sheriff's Office said Sigman was in uniform and on duty when he purchased the pills. The deputy's arrest could call into question some of his recent criminal cases.

"We will review his previous arrests, and we will look at the prior cases that he worked on prior to being transferred back to patrol," said Twis Lizasuain, with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

Sigman was a detective in the property crimes division and never worked in the narcotics division, officials said.

According to court records, Sigman is the arresting officer or a witness in 14 open cases. WFTV legal analyst Belvin Perry said defense attorneys trying to get their clients out of a case could have a burden of proof.

"It could play a factor. It could play a significant factor if it affects his ability to clearly testify to the events that he is testifying to," Perry said.

Sigman has been removed from duty without pay and is facing termination, officials said.
