Orlando resident treats patients aboard hospital ship USNS Mercy

ORLANDO, Fla. — A U.S. Navy lieutenant from Orlando is getting to work treating patients aboard the USNS Mercy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Lt. Wade Miller is treating patients aboard the hospital ship, which was deployed to support the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts.

According to the Navy Office of Community Outreach, the ship is serving as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to shore-based hospitals.

By doing so, the office said, hospitals onshore can focus their efforts on COVID-19 cases.
