Orlando Chief of Police Eric Smith hosted a community meeting at Shiloh Baptist Church Thursday evening.

It comes after two shootings over Easter Weekend in the area left six people dead, including two children.

Residents who attended the meeting brought up several different topics they said they want to see addressed, including 9-1-1 response times and improving relationships between officers and the community.

City Commissioner Regina Hill, who represents the district that includes the Parramore area, says meetings like the one they held Thursday are crucial for stopping crime.

“We know fighting crime doesn’t start at City Hall or at the Orlando Police Department,” Hill said. “It starts in the community, and we need great residents helping us with the call to make our community safe.”

The officers in attendance said they would take the notes they wrote down back to the department and try to come up with a plan to fix the issues they heard.
