Orlando man bitten by shark in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — An Orlando man is recovering after he was bitten by a shark in Daytona Beach Monday afternoon.

Volusia County Beach Safety Officials say the 33-year-old man was wading in waist-deep water just before 3 p.m. near the Silver Beach Ave. access point when he was bitten on the foot by a presumed shark.

He was taken to the hospital and his expected to survive.

Beach Safety officials say it was the sixth shark bite in Volusia County so far this year.

Most recently, a 28-year-old man from Daytona Beach was bitten by a shark while surfing next to the New Smyrna Beach Jetty on July 4th. He was also taken to the hospital to be treated for a bite to the foot.

To reduce the chances of being bitten by a shark, experts recommend swimming in groups, and avoiding swimming during dawn and dusk hours when sharks are most active.
