ORLANDO, Fla. — The 2022 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on June 23 and the Orlando Magic will have the first overall selection.
The draft order for the first 60 picks was determined Tuesday night after the completion of the annual NBA Draft Lottery.

The Magic were among the 14 teams that didn’t make the 2022 playoffs, making them eligible for the lottery.
With an overall record of 22-60, Orlando was tied with the Houston Rockets (20-62) and Detroit Pistons (23-59) with a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery.
The actual lottery selection involves drawing numbered ping pong balls from a lottery machine with the best odds of winning going to the teams with the three worst regular-season records.

Once the first 14 picks are handed out, the remaining selections for the first round and entire second round are determined by reverse order of the teams’ regular season records.
Orlando will have the second pick in the second round, or number 32 overall.
The Detroit Pistons won the 2021 NBA lottery and used that pick to draft Cade Cunningham first overall from Oklahoma State University.
